The Deschutes Public Library Foundation and local Friends of the Library organizations work in partnership to provide sustainable funding for programs and outreach services not funded through taxes. You are invited to make an investment in the future of our communities by donating to sustain these vital library services and resources.

Cultural and Author Programs

Uniting Communities

Each year the Library offers more than 100 free cultural programs that engage community members in conversations about relevant and timely issues, and deepen their understanding of music, art, world cultures, heritage, and literature. Author programs are another way the Library unites communities across Deschutes County. More than 5,000 residents participate annually in Oregon’s largest community read/discussion program, A Novel Idea...Read Together. These programs are supported 100% by donations and grants.

Through A Novel Idea…Read Together, thousands of Deschutes County residents share the common bond of reading a selected book and participating in related cultural and literary events each spring.

Books, Music, Movies

Free access for all

The Library’s core service is to provide free and open access to books, music, movies, and other information that is critical for our citizens. Library usage is up 30% from 2008 but the materials budget has remained stagnant. We currently cannot keep up with demand. Your donation will make the difference and expand the collection for us to better serve our residents.
